December 2007:

Check out this link for some great new photos from our feeding partners in Honduras!

You may be wondering whether or not we made our goal of packaging one million meals and raising $57,000 in November (see Challenge Grant info below). Please check back soon for an update!

November 2007:

NOVEMBER: MONTH OF A MILLION MEALS

As As Thanksgiving approaches and we stop to count our blessings, please help me make my most ambitious project to date a reality!  As a kick-off event for our annual campaign, Kids Against Hunger has set a goal of packaging ONE MILLION MEALS during the month of November.   Our goal here at our headquarters is to package 250,000 of those meals and combine our efforts with those of our 30+ packaging satellites throughout the country to total ONE MILLION.

To achieve that, we need to raise $57,000 to cover the cost of the food and shipping to get the meals to the starving children who so desperately need our help.

I invite you to join me in this project, and am announcing a Challenge Grant in honor of my late wife, Marcie.  Marcie shared my commitment to feed the starving children of the world and I can think of no greater way to honor her memory than for Kids Against Hunger to be able to package ONE MILLION MEALS in a single month.

Our goal is $57,000 and if that goal is reached by Nov. 30, I pledge to match that amount-- which will enable New Hope to package an additional 250,000 meals in December.

Now is the time to open your heart to the world’s innocent victims of poverty —now when your gift will feed twice as many children.

Please give generously so, as you sit down to your Thanksgiving meal with family and friends, you can be grateful that you were able to help those who cannot help themselves.

Sincerely,

Richard Proudfit

Founder & President

October 2007:

MDRT Foundation Secures Grant for Kids Against Hunger to Package 65,200 Meals for Starving Children in Haiti

New Hope, MN (Oct. 30, 2007)—Milt Edgren, ChFC, MSFS, of Golden Valley, MN secured a $15,000 grant from the MDRT Foundation on behalf of Kids Against Hunger.

Edgren, of Woodhill Financial and a 31-year MDRT member, is an active supporter of Kids Against Hunger and nominated and endorsed the grant application.  Kids Against Hunger is a nonprofit organization that uses volunteers to package specially formulated, nutritionally complete casserole- type meals for starving and malnourished children around the world. According to Mr. Edgren, the international scope of Kids Against Hunger made it a perfect fit for the MDRT Association, whose membership extends to 76 nations and territories around the world. The MDRT grant will support a program of Kids Against Hunger that ships meals to a school with 300 students near Port-au-Prince, Haiti.  The school site attracts not only school age children but also younger siblings and caregivers accompanying the students who come from as far as five miles away.  These families are in desperate need and the meal they receive at the school is often their only meal in a day or more.

Representing the MDRT Foundation, Edgren presented the grant to Mr. Richard Proudfit, founder of Kids Against Hunger, at a packaging event at the Kids Against Hunger headquarters in New Hope.  The event was staffed with volunteers from the Youth Extending Service Club of Wayzata High School who packaged over 5,000 meals in less than two hours.  According to Mr. Proudfit, this generous grant from the MDRT Foundation couldn’t have come at a better time. “We have no shortage of volunteers, especially young people, wanting to package the food.  One of the unplanned, but very significant, benefits of the program is the effect it has on the volunteers – especially the youth.  By packaging the meals they are literally able to save the life of another child.  That knowledge is very powerful in fueling the compassionate spirit needed to produce the next generation of philanthropic adults and we want to accommodate every young person who wants to volunteer.  This grant will fund a packaging opportunity for 260 volunteers.”

This year the MDRT Foundation will award more than $1 million in grants to more than 100 charities.

The MDRT Foundation was created in 1959 to provide MDRT members with a means to give back to their communities.  Since its inception, the Foundation has donated $17.6 million in 63 countries around the world and all 50 U.S. states.  The majority of these funds were raised by MDRT members from MDRT members.

August/September 2007:

It is with great pleasure that we announce that our Founder, Richard Proudfit, has been honored with an award from the Points of Light Foundation.  This award was originally initiated by former President George H. W. Bush during his tenure in office, and has continued to this day.

The Daily Points of Light Award honors individuals and volunteer groups that have made a commitment to connect Americans through service to help  meet critical needs in their communities. Each weekday, one volunteer or volunteer effort in the country receives a Daily Point of Light Award

Mr. Proudfit’s vision has always been to eradicate world hunger by using volunteers to package a highly nutritious meal which will then be distributed to places in this country and around the world where starvation and hunger are taking the lives of innocent children.

His award was given for September 27, 2007, with him being featured on the foundation’s website for that day. The full article can be found here.

This award belongs to each one of you who has faithfully given, prayed and spread the vision. You have made this award possible and we want to give you honor for your dedication, as well.

April/May 2007:

Here is an update from Tim Stromer, the Division Manager of Kids Against Hunger - Mankato (MN):

Wal-Mart: April 14th, 2007. The beginning of a beautiful friendship?

I would have to say the friendship has already begun. Members from our local Mankato Wal-Mart has been coming to our Kids Against Hunger food packaging site for some tim now, and have packaged thousands of meals, and helped pay for many. This past weekend, they have taken it to the next level. Before opening one of their new flagship stores in New Ulm (MN), they decided it would be cool if they fed a few thousand kids! So we set up 9 packaging lines, and over 100 people an hour packed over 66,000 meals, with a donation promised of over $11,000! They are looking into packing over a million meals this year with us!

Our Monroe Elementary this last February unbeknownst to us, decided to knit some scarves and hats and sell them to fundraise for their packing event in April. $1,650 later they packed over 7,000 meals!

We have had three different Jr High schools put out change cans for their packings, and all three of them raised over $600 in just three weeks!

We also have a really big surprise coming that we cannot tell about quite yet. For now, we are getting ready for the big Kids Against Hunger Satellite and Division Team Meeting this summer in New Hope and Mankato - see you there!

                                                                                                                                                                - Tim Stromer

We are very excited to announce the latest addition to our Kids Against Hunger team of food packaging satellites: Kids Against Hunger - Moravia (IA) and Kids Against Hunger - Norfolk (NE). Please check the "Satellites" page for contact information, to schedule a food packaging session, and to find out about other volunteer opportunities offered by those satellites.

March 2007:

Within the last few months, we have shipped one million meals to Niger, India, Haiti, Honduras, the Philippines, and local food shelves in Minnesota. Also, thanks to our partnership with the U.S. Navy and its “Project Handclasp”, 40 additional pallets of food (285,120 meals) are currently on their way to Central and South America.

In 2006, Kids Against Hunger has distributed food to 11 countries and several food shelves in the USA from our New Hope (MN) location alone. Your donations have enabled us to feed starving children and their families in Liberia, Tanzania, Haiti, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Mexico, Iraq, India, Honduras, Niger, and right here in the USA. Our feeding network currently includes 32 Kids Against Hunger food packaging satellites and affiliated organizations in the USA and Canada. Our newest additions to the Kids Against Hunger team are Kids Against Hunger - Becker (MN), and Kids Against Hunger - Central Indiana (in Carmel).

All this would not be possible without your help. Your time and your financial support are what keep this organization going! You are giving children in the world a chance of hope.

January/February 2007:

Within the last three months, we have shipped food to the following countries:
